We have found that most people know very little about what human trafficking is and who it affects. Yet, the problem is closer to you than you might think. There have been several reported cases of trafficking in Federal Way, most recently the bust at the Blue Moon. The people who commit these crimes as well as the victims live in our neighborhoods and shop at the same stores. Human trafficking is largely hidden and has increasingly been gaining momentum through online service pages like backpage.com.

Human trafficking is when someone recruits, harbors, transports, transfers, provides, obtains, or receives by any methods another person knowing that force, fraud, or coercion will be used to cause the person to engage in forced labor, involuntary servitude, or a commercial sex act. Human trafficking can affect anyone, regardless of their age or gender.

Striving to eliminate human trafficking from our city, the Federal Way Coalition Against Trafficking focuses on three main activities:

We generate community awareness by providing opportunities for community members to learn and share their knowledge about and experiences with human trafficking

We advocate for justice by using our voice and influence to hold government and law enforcement accountable for creating strong anti-trafficking laws and implementing them effectively so that prosecution can take place

We provide training opportunities for schools, parent groups, youth groups, and clubs
